Winter Wonderland Wedding

Planning a winter wonderland theme wedding? It is a fabulous and festive theme for a wedding in the cold winter months. A winter wonderland wedding needs equally fabulous attire for the bridal party. I’m going to give some guides and ideas of outfits for everyone from the bride on down.

The highlights of a winter wedding are icy sparkle and plenty of shimmer. I will look for a lustrous light ivory silk gown, and choose a style that has a grand presence. Then think about the details – silver embroidery and crystal beadwork are a must! A light icy blue wedding dress is absolutely stunning. You could also wear an ivory dress (whichever shade suits your skin tone best) and accentuate your waistline with a charcoal grey sash.

I love Keira’s icy blue tulle dress – it’s ‘Something Blue’!

Excellent design by Monique Lhuillier for Fall 2012, look at that glittery waistline!

Winter is the season for heavier fabrics, such as silks, satins, and thicker laces (like Battenberg), and your dress could be embellished with pearls, other beads, crystals, and sequins. Dresses with sleeves are also making a comeback – just like Grace Kelly’s 1956 wedding dress. Heavy embellishments will not look like “too much” for this fantasy style wedding. You can also select a feminine vine pattern and avoid anything that is too summery, like embroidery in the form of daisies or roses.

Look at that gorgeous embellishment and neckline, a style that has a grand presence.

Almost 90% of wedding dresses are strapless or sleeveless, but that's not so practical for a bride who wants to take pictures outside in the chilly weather, or needs to walk any distance. I suggest to look for wraps, shrugs, and capes, or dramatic coats. I've always loved the look of a bride in a white dress and a large red shawl, huddled against her groom who has a red boutonnière. And don't forget your bridesmaids! An attractive wrap to wear on the day of your wedding and beyond makes a great bridesmaid present.

In fact, you can even get hairpins or other jewellery that is made in the shape of a snowflake. A snowflake pendant is a fantastic gift idea for your bridesmaids. You will want plenty of other twinkling touches, too, such as stacks of Swarovski crystal bracelets, chandelier earrings, and a fabulous crystal necklace. You will make a statement with this style and create a stunning and memorable look that people will be talking about for years to come.

P/S: I’m dedicating this entry to my lovely friend, Mel for her upcoming wedding in London. Can’t wait to celebrate her special day! Mmuah xoxo
