Hairstyles = Wedding Dress

Wedding Hairstyles

A friend recently suggested to write an article on wedding hair styles. After having some thoughts, I became intrigued with the idea of dedicating this entry to all the brides-to-be out there.

Some wedding hairstyles are just plain incompatible with certain styles of wedding dresses. And just like you wouldn't serve Chinese food at your wedding if the theme were French country, you shouldn't choose a hairstyle that doesn't compliment your dress. It's important to strike a balance between the dress you are wearing and your wedding hairstyle for an ultimately beautiful, overall look.

Updo and half updo hairstyles that you can add with sparkly headpiece and jewellery

If you have chosen a princess ball wedding dress, a flamboyant updo is generally the best option. For a simple, contemporary dress, a slicked back ponytail or bun, with a floral fabric side band is elegant yet understated. For a whimsical lace and chiffon dress, you can wear your hair down with unstructured curls, or try a loose chignon with trailing tendrils around the face. A glamorous wedding and evening dress works well with smooth structured waves and sparkly accessories.

Now this is from my own wedding experience, try to consider wedding hairstyles that can last for a long time (if you have 2 ceremonies at the same day!). If your ceremony starts at 2pm and your reception won’t finish until midnight, then you have to decide practical solution to keep your hairstyles looking great all day. I’ve chosen French Twist (morning), half updo (garden wedding) and side twist for evening reception. Can’t believe I go through all that, what a day!!

Found my wedding hairstyle photo, this was taken in the morning ceremony. I’ve chosen to put on a French Twist hairdo to change quickly into my other wedding outfit. (Photo credits to www.genelim.com)

Final side twist hair do – thank God I only have to this once in a lifetime!

I've seen few brides in this past year going for whimsical 'midsummer nights dream' style in their wedding day look, and I fall for it every time. I just love to see a bride wearing a sparkly hair band - it makes such a pretty alternative to something more sparkly and looks fantastic with a loose up do and tousled hair.

Wedding hairstyles ideas – if you have very detailed wedding dress, try to keep your hairstyle as sleek as possible

It can be hard to be objective when you fall in love with a hairstyle that just doesn't quite suit your wedding dress. And since your wedding day is typically well documented, you don't want to look back at your pictures and wonder "what was I thinking?!". The general rule is that if you have a very detailed wedding dress, or large complicated jewellery such as chandelier earrings, you should try to keep your wedding hairstyle as sleek and simple as possible.
